The annual manganese production is about 2 million tons from York and Hotazel operations. Our resources in York, Hotazel, Kipling, Devon and Telele mining rights equate to over 100 years of production. KMR’s production is supported by a Loadout Station with a loading capacity of more than 4 million tons.
The operation consists of two open-pit mines, York and Hotazel, a processing plant and various support infrastructure.
The core principle of Kudumane is that the local community’s must benefit from the work the company does. Kudumane has worked hard on drawing talent from the surrounding area. When the required skills or experience is not available locally, recruitment is extended nationally.
The labor-sending area is Hotazel and the surrounding communities within the Joe Morolong Local Municipality, the District Municipality of John Taolo Gaetsewe, and thereafter the rest of the province and the country.
South Africa has the largest mineral resource and mineral reserve base of manganese in the world in both global production and export of manganese ore. South Africa holds 80% of global reserves with a 30% – 45% manganese content, which comes from the Kalahari Basin.
